2025 College Scholarship Recipients

Ivy McNiel is our CT scholarship winner and was diagnosed with T1D in 2013. Ivy will be a sophomore at Simmons University in the fall, continuing her studies for her doctorate in Physical Therapy. Ivy's essay was powerful, she's very family focused and looking forward to spending the summer with them. Ivy volunteers and has made many friends and connections in the local and T1D community. Congratulations, Ivy!

Hannah Guevremont is our first ever Rhode Island scholarship recipient. She was diagnosed with T1D in 2017 and will be a freshman at Rhode Island College studying nursing. Hannah is incredibly active, both in the local community and T1D community. Hannah truly defines thriving despite the diagnosis. "The journey has taught me that my voice matters and that I have the power to make a difference, not only in my own life but in the lives of others living with T1D. But most importantly, my T1D has brought me so many connections." Congratulations, Hannah!

2024 College Scholarship Recipients

In 2024, $1,000 scholarships were awarded to Ivy McNiel and Kaitlin Tassmer - Connecticut residents whose applications clearly demonstrated their commitment to the community.

Ivy was diagnosed at age 7 and Kaitln was diagnosed at age 9 so both remember life before T1D, and had to adapt quickly to make sure they didn't miss a thing! Both women have very supportive networks at school and in sports that are very knowledgeable about T1D. Both students are patients at Connecticut Children's and appreciate the consultative relationships they have with their providers who helped them thrive despite the diagnosis.

We hope Ivy and Kaitlin have an amazing academic year and T1D stays on the sidelines.
